The history of Henry Jones Art Hotel
General Manager’s WelcomeThank you for taking the time to visit The Henry Jones Art Hotel website. On behalf of our entire team, allow me to extend to you our warmest welcome.
Thanks to the vision of architects Morris-Nunn and Associates, we have been truly privileged to be involved with the breathtaking transformation of a historically sensitive site such as this. In creating the Henry Jones Art Hotel, we have crafted a luxurious and innovative opportunity for you to engage directly—not only with Tasmania’s utterly unique cultural heritage—but also with its art, through our showcase of contemporary Tasmanian artworks.
The hotel's history and story is captivating. The story of this site dates back to 1804, when Lieutenant-Governor Collins landed in a beautiful cove, just footsteps from the place where the hotel's main entrance now welcomes our guests. At one time, these buildings housed the nation's largest private companies, and the brand of H. Jones & Co. Pty. Ltd.—IXL Jams is still proudly displayed above the entrance to what is now Australia’s first dedicated art hotel.
Over 500 original and contemporary works of art are exhibited throughout the hotel, showcasing Tasmania’s leading and emerging artists. Most of the work here is available for purchase—giving you the opportunity to acquire an once-in-a-lifetime souvenir of your time with us.
Our dedicated staff will ensure that your stay at our Hotel meets your highest expectations. We sincerely look forward to welcoming you to a truly unique luxury hotel experience.
