Henry Jones Art Prize 2026 Submissions Entries are Open

The Henry Jones Art Prize returns in 2026, continuing The Henry Jones Art Hotel’s commitment to nurturing and celebrating Tasmania’s contemporary artists. More than an art prize, it is a platform for early career artists to share their work, gain recognition and connect with audiences, collectors and the wider arts community.

Open to Tasmanian early career artists, the prize welcomes those at the beginning of their artistic journey, including recent graduates, current students, and artists making a career transition where art has become a priority. Submissions for the 2026 Henry Jones Art Prize open on 3 August and close on 27 September 2026.

Finalists will be showcased throughout The Henry Jones Art Hotel, with winners announced at the annual Gala celebration. With a prize pool of over $40,000 across the Painting and Mixed Media categories, alongside the People’s Choice and Packing Room Prizes, the Henry Jones Art Prize provides a valuable opportunity to support, recognise and champion the future of Tasmanian art.

About the Henry Jones Art Prize

The Henry Jones Art Prize is a key initiative by The Henry Jones Art Hotel to support and promote Tasmania’s emerging, Early Career artists. With a prize pool totalling over $40,000, the prize is divided into two major categories—Painting and Mixed Media—each awarding $20,000 to the winners.

There is a People’s Choice Award of $1,000, sponsored by Artery Hobart, for the artist whose work receives the most votes during the exhibition, and the Packing Room Prize, selected by the hanging team, grants one artist $750.

The hotel, known for its dedication and passion to support Tasmanian artists, houses almost 500 evolving works from both emerging and established Tasmanian artist as a working gallery. The Henry Jones Art Prize not only provides substantial financial recognition but also offers a platform for artists to launch and develop their careers.

 

2025 Winners

Zoe Fitzherbert won the Painting Prize and $20,000 for her work titled Oberon’s Throne.

Harry Blizzard won the Mixed Media Prize and $20,000 for his work titled Thirsty Work.

Highly commended was awarded to Jess Bateman for her work Dollop. And the Hangers Choice went to Ruby Roberts for The Gorge.
